WA: PM denies Timor parades will offend Indonesia

PERTH, Feb 24 AAP - Prime Minister John Howard today dismissed reports that Indonesia
could be offended by welcome home parades for Australian troops and police who served
in East Timor.

Mr Howard announced yesterday that parades would be held in Townsville and Sydney to
welcome back returning service people, amid reports that Indonesian President Wahid was
considering cancelling his forthcoming Australian visit because Indonesia was offended.

Mr Howard said today there was no indication that the reports were true.
