RALEIGH, N.C. A 17-year-old Chicago area girl exchanged sexuallyexplicit Internet messages with police officers from around thecountry, resulting in the suspension of several of them.
Police officers in North Carolina, Georgia, Texas and Virginiasay the girl, who lives in suburban Chicago, struck up e-mailfriendships that quickly escalated into sexually explicitconversations, the News & Observer of Raleigh reported Saturday.
In Wake County, N.C., eight deputies were disciplined last monthfor exchanging sexually suggestive messages with the girl while theywere on duty. The girl's mother said one deputy sent her daughter aphoto of his genitals. Wake County Sheriff John H. Baker Jr. demotedone deputy and suspended seven for two to four days.The girl's mother says the policemen took advantage of herdaughter's innocent adventures on the Internet. But some officerssay she lured them into a trap."This young woman has gone around the country, as best we candetermine, and made contact with a very vulnerable element of oursociety - police officers - and then drawn them in and alleged sometype of sexual misconduct," said Troy Spencer, the attorney for onesuspended Virginia officer. "She's a cyberspider."
