Fed: Teachers to vote on NAPLAN ban=2
Parliamentary secretary for health and ageing Mark Butler told Sky News that asking
parents to supervise the tests was among a range of options the government would consider
if the boycott went ahead.
Parents supervised excursions and other activities, so it was not a novel idea to have
them watch students take the tests, he said.
"It's not something we want to do, we want the teachers' union today to rethink this
threat, we think the tests are important and their job is to supervise them going ahead,"
Mr Butler said.
But Liberal senator Mitch Fifeld said the government had pitted parents and teachers
against each other.
"It's bizarre, Julia Gillard's proposal, that parents basically face off against the
teachers of their own kids," he told Sky News.
